LAZPoint is an object, which can be found in your plugin menu. 


First, make an instance of a LAZPoint object.

Now click on the LAZPoint object, and let's go through what each of the settings do.




  • The first thing you probably want to do is load in a point cloud.


The Import button is where you load your point clouds, from. This lets you import point cloud files, in various formats. LAS, LAZ, XYZ, PTS, ASC.

You can ask it to import an entire folder, and it will magically bind, and align multiple files, into multiple layers. As long as they are in the same coordinates space, this will work perfectly. If you have large files, you might want to limit the Maximum points that the plugin should import, or just tell it to Load Every nth point.


Once you have loaded in some points, you might want to Clip some points. For this, there is a clipping TAB.


Reveal : lets you reduce the number of visible points, by index. At 100% everything is visible. at  50% the first half of the points are visible, as they where loaded in.

Radius : clips points by radius from Center. Center has a handle which you can move around. its all pretty much realtime and no more explaining :)


Min.Height and Max.Height let you hide points above or below a the values found in clip details tab.



The next options let you select what LAZPoint should generate.

Anything other than lazpoint is tricky, if you have big point clouds, so be careful. You can generate XParticles, c4d points (with vertex tags for R,G,B or in R19 a vertex color tag), hair(for which there is a LAZPoint hair shader) and splines, which is interesting with the VLS virtual laser scanner.


The Show option helps you improve viewport performance, buy showing less points.


Finally, you can see some stats on the number of points in memory, over the number of points shown, and the number of layers this point cloud has.
