Is it possible to use the new NED format that the USGS is utilizing for the National Map Viewer in DEM Earth?
I have downloaded several NED files of the area I would like to import into DEM Earth. They offer ArcGrid, GridFloat and IMG folders for download at 1/3 arc second. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this and if so, what process have you used to convert these files for use with DEM Earth.
Thanks,
Randy Mills

yes, you can use these files. if you have a GIS application, convert to asc, geographic with datum WGS84.
In global Mapper
Load the segment in to global mapper
Select the layer you just loaded in.
open the configuration window, Tools/Configure
choose the Projection Tab
Change the projection to Geographic(lattitude/longitude)
Change the Datum to WGS84
Close the configuration window
now save as asc
File/Exporte Elevation Grid format
Choose - Arc ASCII Grid
hit OK
save the file.
In DEM Earth (1.35 or greater)
Create a DemEarth Object
Go to Tab, Object/Location/DataSet
Press the "Embed ASC file" button
Select the asc file you previousy saved from Global Mapper.
DEM Earth loads in the file and centers the location on the middle of the embeded region.
