Simple highway route Dem Earth

I need to show straight main highway route in a map animation, or rather several map animations for a documentary. I have done this in the past using DEM files downloaded from google earth stuck together in photoshop before this plugin existed, but roads have always been an issue. That data is not easily available in a format I know what to do with. When I saw a few demo videos of Dem Earth  like this one:

I thought it would be perfect but I can't find info on how to do this.

I can get vectors of roads but there are way too many, every road in the country rather than just the highways. Can some list a basic workflow to achieve a route of main roads?

Cheers

simply drag and drop a GPX file into c4d. DEM Earth will set everything up for you. Expect it to download a lot if the track is big. dont expect it to do a country the size of NZ, without using a lot of resources, and you having to do some work.

see docs..

make a GPX file, in any editor. and export it into DEM Earth. that is the usual workflow for lighting up a track. There are many free and online GPX editors.

here is a good one. http://wtracks.appspot.com/

Sorry I have to asked the dumb question, there just in't enough info in the documentation to fill in the blanks, where do you import the GPX file into Dem Earth?

Is it somewhere in the object or in a smart osm object?

Okay, after experimenting a lot I've figured this out.

For the benefit of others as dumb as me, put a WAY object in a blank project and drop your GPX file on the objects pane, DEM earth will automatically create a sweep nurb and small circle with you route spline inside. You can create you GPX file by using google maps to make a route, then copy paste the URL to this converter:

http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert_input

You can only do 500km max.

Sometime the low res textures will not fit, but if you bump up to 11 or so in the map loader it seems to fit just fine.

Very fast when you know how.
